ILCC Trustees Hold Hearing On Proposed Budget

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College Tuesday held a public hearing on the college’s proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

The college plans to levy slightly more than 2.8 million dollars in property taxes for fiscal year 2008, compared to nearly 3.2 million for this year…a decline of 10.44 percent.

The estimated tax rate per one thousand dollars of valuation is slightly more than 73 cents…compared with 83 cents currently.

As a side note, college officials added the increase in valuation in the ILCC service area was the lowest increase of any community college district in Iowa.

In other business Tuesday, ILCC trustees approved the purchase of land north of the Christensen Building at the Estherville campus; gave the go-ahead to advertise building specifications for the two-phased expansion of the Sustainable Energy Education Center with a public hearing and bid opening in early April; and they set March 20th as the date for a public hearing and presentation of bids for the Regional Emergency Response Basic Training Center planned for the Emmetsburg campus.

Trustees also approved a proposal allowing for the limited serving of beer and alcohol at the Max Student Center at the Estherville campus for a special gathering.
