Turkey Truck Mishap Results In Road Closure; Sends Driver To LRH

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A mishap this (Tuesday) morning involving a semi loaded with turkeys made quite a mess on the north edge of Milford.

Milford police say it happened around 5:00 a.m. on Highway 86 near the Highway 71 intersection.

Authorities say the driver, Victor James, lost control. The semi tractor-trailer then left the road and flipped onto its side.

James, who’s age and hometown weren’t immediately available, was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with unknown injuries.

Bob Clark of the Milford Police Department says the truck, owned by G & T of Schaller, Iowa, and the turkeys, owned by Sara Lee, are a total loss. Damage is estimated at about 50-thousand dollars.

The mishap resulted in a stretch of Highway 86 being closed most of the morning and into the afternoon while crews worked to clean up the mess.

Clark says a second mishap took place a short time later at the same location. He says the driver of one vehicle was distracted looking at the semi wreckage and went through a red light, colliding with another vehicle. While there was a considerable amount of property damage, Clark says no injuries were reported in that crash.
