Blizzard Clean-up Continues

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Road crews didn’t get much of a break this past weekend, spending most of it cleaning up from the blizzard.

The storm hit Thursday morning and continued to cause problems through most of Saturday. Winds finally subsided late in the day Saturday, and crews took advantage of quiet conditions Sunday to get all area roads open once again.

However, state and city road crews say their plowing operations are far from over. They say it will take several days yet to get things back to normal, as many roads still have narrow cuts and areas with just one lane of travel.

Local electric utilities continue to recover as well. Estherville-based Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative says all of it’s member-owners had power restored by Friday night.

The National Weather Service says no major storms are expected this week, with a warm-up for the latter part of the week.
