Historic Preservation Consultant Joins Staff At Spencer R C & D Office

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Communities in seven northwest Iowa counties looking to preserve historic buildings and attractions have a new resource available to them.

Sheriffa Jones has joined the Iowa Lakes R C & D office in Spencer as Historic Preservation Consultant serving Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, O’Brien, Osceola and Palo Alto counties.

Jones says she has access to a number of resources, as well as grant possibilities.

Jones is already working on projects in several area communities, including efforts to preserve and transform a former school building in Estherville into an arts center. In Spencer, Jones is working to get the Masonic Lodge placed on the National Register of Historic Places. She’s also working on a project in Sanborn to preserve that community’s Carnegie Library.
