Search Leads To Traffic Stop And Drug Arrests

(Spirit Lake)– Drug charges have been filed against three Spirit Lake men in connection with a search of a residence and a traffic stop today (Wednesday).

Spirit Lake police and the High Risk Entry and Arrest Team (HEAT) executed a search warrant this (Wednesday) morning at 910 11th Street in Spirit Lake.

Upon entering officers located 54-year-old Richard Newbiggin of Spirit Lake in the residence. A subsequent search resulted in authorities finding a green leafy substance alleged to be marijuana along with what’s alleged to be drug paraphernalia.

Newbiggin was taken into custody and was charged with possession of a controlled substance…marijuana…third offense; possession of drug paraphernalia; and keeping a disorderly house.

Upon further investigation Spirit Lake police stopped a 1980 Chrysler Sedan. The occupants in that vehicle, 20-year-old Mitchell Newbiggin and 21-year-old Joshua Dyhrkopp…both of Spirit Lake…were taken into custody. Mitchell Newbiggin was charged with frequenting a disorderly house. Dyhrkopp was charged with possession of a controlled substance…marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia and frequenting a disorderly house.
