(Estherville)– Some local soldiers have been placed on alert for possible deployment for a peace-keeping mission in Kosovo.
The Iowa National Guard says it affects 230 soldiers from the First Battalion, 194th Field Artillery and another 100 from Company A, First Battalion 133rd Infantry.
The 194th Field Artillery has units in Estherville, Algona, Storm Lake and Fort Dodge. It specializes in artillery and close air support.
The 133rd Infantry Unit is based in Dubuque. It specializes in close combat and security.
The Iowa Department of Defense and National Guard Bureau made the announcement Thursday in Washington.
