November 22, 2014

(Sioux City)– A Cherokee woman charged in an Arizona-to-Iowa methamphetamine trafficking case was sentenced Thursday in U-S District Court in Sioux City.

36-year-old Cheryl Tate was sentenced to 70 months in prison along with eight years of supervised release following the jail sentence.

Tate pleaded guilty on December 4th, 2006, to conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

At a plea hearing Tate admitted she conspired with others to distribute 59 grams of meth from Arizona to Iowa through the U-S Postal Service from about January, 2006 through about April 12th, 2006.

Tate also admitted to previously being convicted of two felony possession of methamphetamine offenses in Maricopa county, Arizona, in 2000 and 2001.

Tate is being held in the custody of the U-S Marshal until she can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was investigated by the U-S Postal Inspection Service and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
