(Spencer)– Yet another scam targeting area senior citizens is apparently making the rounds.
This one is coming through the mail.
The Northwest Aging Association in Spencer says it had reports of local seniors getting a mailing from a firm calling itself the “National Data Research Center” with a return address of 2020 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. The front of the mailer reads “Social Security and Medicare are not affected”; “You and your spouse can receive payments for as long as you live in your home”; “there is no income verification”; and “this program is both sponsored and insured by the federal government”.
Recipients are asked to write their name, phone number, date of birth and spouse’s date of birth on a detachable card and mail it to a post office box in Dallas, Texas…not the Washington address posted on the front of the mailing.
Officials with the Northwest Aging Association say it’s another attempt to manipulate people into sending personal information which could then be sent to mortgage companies.
