(Undated)– County road departments throughout the region urge extreme caution for anyone travelling on gravel roads. All that melting snow has turned many of them into muddy quagmires.
A single-vehicle mishap that took place last Thursday in Clay county illustrates the point.
The Sheriff’s Office says 24-year-old Kyle Orwig of Lenexa, Kansas was eastbound on 410th Street when he came over the hill and hit a patch of slush, then some muddy gravel. Authorities say Orwig over-corrected when his vehicle started to slide in the muck. A 2001 Ford Explorer he was driving slid about 90 degrees and rolled over…coming to rest on its wheels in the south ditch.
Orwig wasn’t injured, but his vehicle sustained an estimated three thousand dollars in damage.
