Semi Collides With Mini-Van; Three People Injured

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A collision involving a mini-van and a semi at the corner of Highway 71 and Fourth Street in Milford around Noon Friday sent three people to the hospital.

Milford police say a semi driven by 29-year-old John Johnson of Sergeant Bluff and a mini van driven by 50-year-old Christine Montenegro of Lake Park were southbound on Highway 71. Authorities say Monetenegro was attempting to turn right into a business drive when the semi collided with the mini van. The impact caused the mini van to overturn onto a large rock.

Montenegro and two passengers–Penny Lock and Drusilla McCarthy–were all taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare. Jaws of Life equipment had to be used to cut a hole in the top of the minivan to free McCarthy.

Montenegro and Lock were treated and released; McCarthy was still hospitalized as of late Friday afternoon.

No injuries were reported to Johnson.

1,500-dollars in damage was estimated to a 2002 Peterbilt semi driven by Johnson; a 2007 Honda mini van driven by Montenegro was totalled.

The crash remains under investigation.
