Caution Urged When Conducting Open Burning

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Area farmers and anyone else planning to do any open burning are urged to use extreme caution.

Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch says the grassfire danger is very high right now with all the dead vegetation. He’s urging anyone who does any open burning to keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t get out of control.

Several area fire departments have responded to grass fires in the past several days. Most were caused by what started out as controlled burns that got out of hand.

Officials say the grass fire danger will remain high until new growth takes over and things green up more.
