(Spencer)– Some inmates at the Clay county jail are accused of making booze while in the slammer.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 40-year-old Juan Humberto Castillo Alvarez and 24-year-old Jean-Michael Roland Brown have been charged with furnishing an intoxicating beverage to inmates at a detention facility…a class “D” felony.
The two were charged Tuesday.
Authorities say jail staff located some contraband while conducting a cell-check. An investigation determined it was an intoxicating beverage concocted from items inmates receive on a daily basis.
The two inmates are accused of placing bread, juices, sugar and kool-aid in a plastic bag and letting it ferment.
Humberto-Castillo Alvarez is in jail on murder and kidnapping charges in connection with the Gregory “Sky” Erickson case. He’s awaiting trial. Brown is in jail after being unable to post bond on drug and theft charges.
