Authorities Investigate Rash Of Canoe Thefts

(Spirit Lake)– An investigation is underway into a recent rash of canoe thefts in Spirit Lake and Orleans.

Spirit Lake police say three canoes have been stolen from residences since Monday…and they’re calling for the public’s assistance in finding whoever’s responsible.

Authorities say two canoes were stolen from Spirit Lake residences between 7:00 p.m. Monday and 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. One is described as a red 1979 Coleman canoe with Iowa DNR license of 5470GG. The other is a 1973 Low Line canoe with Iowa DNR license of 4681W.

Authorities say a third canoe was reported stolen between 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 3:00 p.m. this (Wednesday) afternoon from a residence in Orleans. It’s described as a green 2003 Old Town canoe with Iowa DNR license of 9400AV.

Anyone with any information into any of the thefts is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 336-2345. Your name isn’t necessary to make the call. Any information that leads to an arrest results in a 200-dollar reward, and up to 200-dollars for information on any other crime.
