(Emmetsburg)– A head-on crash this (Monday) morning in Palo Alto county claimed the life of a Storm Lake man.
The Iowa State Patrol says 31-year-old Rogelio Luna, Junior of Storm Lake was driving a 1996 Ford Taurus southbound on Highway Four about a half mile north of Highway 18 when he crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming 2001 Ford Taurus driven by 30-year-old Matthew Schultz of Graettinger.
Luna was pronounced dead a short time after the mishap.
Emmetsburg firefighters used jaws of life equipment to extricate Schultz from his vehicle. He was transported by air to Mercy Hospital in Mason City with incapacitating injuries.
The State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, Palo Alto County Ambulance, Emmetsburg Fire Department and Mercy AirCare.
The mishap took place around 7:18 a.m.
