Semi Mishap Results In Fuel Leak

November 22, 2014

(Wallingford)– Emmet county authorities have released details into a semi accident Tuesday that made quite a mess.

The Sheriff’s Office says it happened shortly before 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of 250th Street and 370th Avenue southwest of Wallingford. Authorities say the semi was turning right onto 250th Street when the trailer cut short. The semi, loaded with piping, wound up on its side in the south ditch.

The Wallingford and Estherville Fire Departments were called to the scene to clean up about 50 gallons of diesel that leaked from the truck’s fuel tank. Wallingford Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says absorbent socks were used to soak up the fuel. He says they were able to contain it to the one area.

Firefighters were on the scene about three hours.

Damage to the truck, owned by a Fargo, North Dakota company, was estimated at about 25-thousand dollars.

No injuries were reported.

Emmet County Emergency Management, the Emmet County Road Department and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources also responded to the scene.
