Spencer Man Accused Of Stealing Pickup & Trailer

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Charges have been filed against a Spencer man accused of stealing a pickup pulling an enclosed trailer and taking it for a joy ride on some railroad tracks before overturning it.

25-year-old Shawn Kilbride of Spencer is accused of stealing a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup pulling an enclosed trailer with music equipment in it from a business in Milford.

Spencer police say Kilbride drove the vehicle to Spencer, turned west onto West 15th Street, then turned onto some railroad tracks between West 15th Street and West 14th Street. Authorities say Kilbride continued southbound on the railroad tracks until the trailer flipped over and jackknifed. Police say Kilbride then abandoned the vehicle. Authorities say two witnesses saw him go to a residence at the corner of West 15th Street and Third Avenue West.

Kilbride was arrested at that location and charged with operating without the owner’s consent; trespassing; and interference with official acts.

Spencer police say additional charges are pending against Kilbride, who was also wanted on a warrant out of Dickinson county.

The pickup and trailer sustained an estimated four thousand dollars in damage.

The incident took place shortly before 2:00 a.m. Saturday.
