Body Of Missing Spencer Man Recovered In Little Sioux River

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The search for a missing Spencer man ended on a sad note Friday night when the vehicle he was last seen in was recovered from the Little Sioux River in Spencer.

Michael Durham’s van was seen by a concerned citizen that was canoeing the Little Sioux River. The caller advised it appeared that a vehicle may be in the river, and that it was just barely visible.

Spencer police located the vehicle shortly after 10:00 p.m. below an embankment near St. Lukes Drive and 11th Street Southeast in Spencer.

Durham’s body was recovered a short time after the van was pulled to shore.

The Spencer Police Department was assisted by the Spencer Fire Department Water Rescue personnel; the Iowa State Patrol and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

The Clay County Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Durham had been missing since about 2:00 a.m. May 9th.
