Hwy 18 Crash Near Clay/Palo Alto Co. Line Injures Two

November 22, 2014

(Ruthven)– A two-vehicle collision Wednesday on Highway 18 near the Clay/Palo Alto county line resulted in injuries to both drivers.

The Iowa State Patrol says 39-year-old Michael Jackson of Emmetsburg had slowed for another vehicle that was turning left into a farm drive when another vehicle driven by 24-year-old Justin Rosenwinkel of Ruthven tried to pass on the right shoulder. In the process of doing so, authorities say Rosenwinkel struck the rear of the vehicle driven by Jackson.

Both drivers were injured, but the extent of their injuries wasn’t known. There was also no word as to whether or not they sought immediate treatment.

Damage estimates to a 1998 Ford Contour driven by Rosenwinkel and to a 2001 Ford pickup driven by Jackson also weren’t immediately available.

The collision took place around 7:00 a.m. Wednesday.

The State Patrol was assisted by the Clay and Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Offices.
