(Des Moines)– Dollar General says it’s closing eight stores in Iowa.
The discount retailer says the closings are not related to its acquisition by a private equity company, but was made last year to shut down “low-potential” stores.
The closings in Iowa are among 400 nationwide. Iowa has 178 stores, including one in Spirit Lake.
The stores to be closed in Iowa are in Johnston, Urbandale, West Des Moines, Clinton, Dubuque, LeMars, and two in Mason City.
Dollar General was acquired by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Company for over seven billion dollars. The deal was announced in March.
