SL Council Confronted Again Over Lack Of Uniformity In Code Enforcement

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Architectural standards, code enforcement, and a lack of uniform enforcement again confronted the Spirit Lake city council Tuesday.

When it comes to architectural standards, the council directed city staff to look into the possibility of loosening some of the standards for rennovation projects. Some say the requirements make it cost prohibitive for many businesses to improve their storefronts, and that it will eventually drive some businesses out of town.

Council members seemed in favor of keeping the full requirements in place for new construction, adding the standards need to be more uniformly enforced.

They say the same holds true for the city’s code enforcement program, which came under fire again during Tuesday’s meeting.
