(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Department was called to a house fire during this (Friday) morning’s intense thunderstorm.
Fire Chief Chris Youngbluth says firefighters were called to the William and Barbara Junge residence at 2443 202nd Street southeast of Arnolds Park around 3:17 a.m.
The Junge’s had most of the fire put out when firefighters arrived, but Youngbluth says there was moderate smoke in the basement, which had to be ventilated.
Upon investigating, Youngbluth says the cause was determined to be an electrical problem caused by a lightning strike, which damaged some outbuildings on the property as well.
The Junge’s were home at the time, but weren’t injured.
Damage was estimated at 2,500-dollars.
11 firefighters were on the scene for about two hours.
