Suspicious Persons Complaint Results In Drug Charges

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Drug charges have been filed against two men following an incident a week ago in Spencer.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it stems from a complaint deputies received June 19th of a suspicious person at a Spencer pharmacy. Authorities followed the suspect to another pharmacy in town where they say he made a purchase. The man then got into a pickup with expired registration. Deputies stopped the vehicle, being driven by 23-year-old Jeremy Quinn of Cylinder.

Upon investigating, authorities found a passenger, Randy Newcomb of Spencer, in possession of three boxes of sudafed…a common ingredient in manufacturing methamphetamine. Authorities say all three boxes had been purchased that day from three different pharmacies in Spencer.

Newcomb was placed under arrest for possession of precursors…a class “D” felony.

Quinn was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance…marijuana…a serious misdemeanor.

Both men were booked into the Clay county jail.
