(Gillett Grove)– A house in Gillett Grove was destroyed by fire this (Wed.) morning.
Firefighters from Dickens and Webb were called shortly after 7:30 a.m. to 516 Third Street in Gillett Grove. Upon arriving Dickens Fire Chief Randy Whalen says firefighters encountered flames coming from the front of the home. He says they were able to bring it under control in about an hour.
The home is owned by Dana Lindell of Spencer and was being rented by Erin Duffey. Whalen says a Sandy Little was in the house at the time of the fire. She managed to get out and called 911.
Little was taken to Spencer Hospital by private vehicle to be checked out. No other injuries were reported.
An investigation by the State Fire Marshal determined the blaze was caused by a candle that ignited a sofa in the living room.
Firefighters were on the scene about three and-a-half hours.
The Dickens and Webb Fire Departments were assisted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Emergency Management, American Red Cross and the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office.
