(Spirit Lake)– A report released today (Thursday) by State Auditor David Vaudt on Dickinson county’s finances show the county’s spending was up 15 percent for the fiscal year ended June 30th, 2006 as compared to the prior fiscal year.
The report shows the county’s expenses totaled slightly more than 10.8 million dollars. The increase is attributed to spending proceeds from tax increment financing bonds, purchasing equipment to comply with the “Help America Vote Act”; increased utilities costs for the new courthouse and the purchase of new computer software.
Local tax revenue for the county for the fiscal year ended June 30th, 2006 totaled 35.7 million dollars. Slight more than 23.3 million of that was forwarded to townships, school districts, cities and other taxing bodies in the county.
The county retained slightly more than 6.3 million of local tax revenue to finance county operations…an eight percent increase over the prior year.
