Authorities Say Operator Of Boat Involved In East Okoboji Drowning Was Drunk

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Authorities now say the operator of a boat from which 21-year-old Cody Schubert of Holstein fell overboard and drowned Saturday night was drunk.

The boat’s operator, 22-year-old Brandon Osborne of North Mankato, Minnesota, has been charged with boating while intoxicated.

Authorities say the boat had just left a dock near the Ritz and was idling in 10 to 12 feet of water when the incident took place shortly before 11:00 p.m.

Five other passengers were in the boat.

The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue’s Surface Water Rescue Team found Schubert’s body about 45 minutes after the incident happened.

Authorities say the incident remains under investigation and additional charges are possible.
