(Arnolds Park)– Local law enforcement agencies are participating in a special enforcement program over the Fourth of July holiday period.

Officials with the Iowa Department of Public Safety say the Special Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP, is focusing on seatbelt usage, child restraints, and drunk drivers.

The special enforcement period runs through Friday (July 6th).

The previous STEP mobilization from May 21st through June 3rd resulted in 394 OWI contacts statewide, with 2,902 seatbelt violations; slightly more than six thousand speed violations and 383 contacts with unlicensed drivers. 240 arrest warrants were also served.
