Special Enforcement To Target Seatbelt Violators

(Undated)– Local law enforcement agenceis are participating in a special enforcement program over the Fourth of July holiday period.

Officials with the Iowa Department of Public Safety say the Special Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP, will focus on seatbelt usage and drunk drivers.

The special enforcement period started today (Monday, July 2nd) and runs through Friday (July 6th).

The previous STEP mobilization from May 21st through June 3rd resulted in 394 OWI contacts statewide, with 2,902 seatbelt violations; slightly more than six thousand speed violations and 383 contacts with unlicensed drivers. 240 arrest warrants were also served.
