(Des Moines)– A spokesman with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says it’s unlikely additional charges will be filed in connection with a drowning Saturday night on East Lake Okoboji.
DNR spokesman Kevin Baskins says however officials do plan to interview the other five passengers who were on the boat from which 21-year-old Cody Schubert of Holstein fell overboard and drowned.
He was not wearing a life jacket.
The operator of the boat, 22-year-old Brandon Osborne of North Mankato, Minnesota, was charged with boating while intoxicated.
Even then, Baskins says they have no evidence as of now to directly that to the drowning. He says investigators determined the boat was being operated at a very slow speed, and there was no indication it was turned quickly.
