(Spencer)– A recent check of businesses by the Spencer Police Department and Positively Spencer Youth was made into the sale of alcohol to underage persons.
Officers sent an 18-year-old to various businesses in Spencer that sell alcohol. Of the 16 that were checked, five made a sale to the underage person.
Spencer police say this was the first of what will be a series of compliance checks. Although no fines or citations were issued this time, police say that will change if the underage sales continue in subsequent checks.
Penalties for selling to an underage person include a 500-dollar fine for the employee making the sale and a 1,500-dollar fine for the employer.
