Duct Tape Said To Be Cause Of Motorcycle Accident

November 22, 2014

(Royal)– Some duct tape stretched across a road was said to be the contributing factor in a motorcycle accident Monday in Royal that injured one person.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 58-year-old Barton Smoot of Royal was driving a Honda motorcycle on Park Street in Royal when saw what he thought was a pipe going across the road about two feet off the ground. Instead, authorities say someone had stretched duct tape across the road. Authorities say Smoot tried to turn away from the obstruction but overturned his motorcycle in the process. He laid on the ground about an hour before his wife found him.

Smoot was transported by ambulance to Spencer Hospital with unknown injuries.

Minor damage was reported to the motorcycle.

Anyone with any information as to who was responsible for stretching the duct tape across the road is asked to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
