SL School Bd Hires Interim Superintendent

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake school board voted today (Thurs.) to hire Douglas Latham as interim Superintendent, replacing Tim Grieves.

Latham has signed an 11 month contract with the district.

He tells KUOO news he’s very excited to come on board with the Spirit Lake district and that he looks forward to working with staff, administrators and teachers and getting to know the district’s patrons.

Latham has been Superintendent in the Earlham Community School District the past seven years. Prior to that he was Elementary Principal at Dallas-Center-Grimes and at Osceola and a parochial school in Perry.

Latham says the well-known excellent reputation of the Spirit Lake School District was one of the reasons he pursued the position here.

Latham added he’s already somewhat familiar with the Iowa Great Lakes, having vacationed here in the past and attended educational seminars here.

Latham has Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Elementary Education and Physical Education from Graceland University in Lamoni. He received his Masters Degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri and has a Specialist Degree from Drake University in Des Moines.

His first day on the job as interim Superintendent for the Spirit Lake schools is August 1st.
