Gravel Pit Mishap Kills Wallingford Man

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A mishap at a gravel pit Wednesday evening near Milford has claimed the life of a Wallingford man.

The victim is identified as 38-year-old Bradley Mills of Wallingford.

Dickinson County Sheriff Greg Baloun says deputies and emergency personnel were called to the pit a half mile east of Milford on 235th Street around 8:00 p.m.

Baloun says Mills had been working on a gravel hopper in the pit, operated by Beck Excavating of Spirit Lake, when he accidentally fell into the hopper and became entangled in the device.

Mills was pronounced dead at the scene after being extricated by rescue personnel.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and paramedics along with Milford Fire and Rescue.

Baloun says the mishap remains under investigation.
