(Undated)– While Thursday evening’s storms brought some badly needed rain to some areas, others received very little or nothing at all.
Here in the Iowa Great Lakes, areas such as Lower Gar and the north side of Big Spirit Lake received an inch or more of rain. Meanwhile here at the KUOO studios on the west side of Spirit Lake only five one-hundredths-of-an-inch fell.
Damaging wind and large hail accompanied the storms in some areas.
Winds as high as 70-miles-per-hour northeast of Melvin in Osceola knocked down tree limbs; strong wind southwest of Milford also knocked down branches. In Primghar, large tree branches and power lines were reported down.
Tree limbs were also knocked down in portions of Spencer and Royal.
Farther west, the storms pummeled some areas with large hail. Hail up to an inch in diameter fell in portions of Lyon, Sioux and Plymouth counties.
