SL Officials To Hold Informational Meeting On Proposed LOST Change

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A proposed change in how proceeds from Spirit Lake’s Local Option Sales Tax are spent will be the topic of an informational meeting city officials will be hosting next week.

As we’ve reported previously, Spirit Lake voters will head to the polls August 14th to decide the fate of a proposal that would allow the city to use 60 percent of the proceeds for any general purpose. Currently that portion of the proceeds can be used only for capital improvements; the other 40 percent is earmarked for tax relief.

No change is being proposed in the amount of the tax or the 40 percent tax relief portion.

City officials will host a roundtable discussion on the proposed change Monday evening (July 30th) at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at Bank Midwest in the Great Lakes Mall. A question-and-answer session will follow a presentation by city council members and City Administrator Mark Stevens.
