Dickinson Co. Sheriff’s Office 4-Wheeler Crashes; Trail Patrol Rider Injured

(Spirit Lake)– A crash sunday involving a four-wheeler owned by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and being operated by a member of its Trail Patrol sent one person to the hospital.

Spirit Lake police say 64-year-old James Stevens of Spirit Lake was driving a 2006 Polaris Sportsman ATV on 15th Street just west of Keokuk Avenue. Stevens told officers the throttle stuck open, causing him to lose control. The four-wheeler crosssed the street and crashed into a chain link fence, breaking through it.

Stevens was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare. There was no word on the extent of his injuries.

Two thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the ATV with about 600-dollars in damage to the fence owned by Citation Homes.

The mishap took place shortly before 8:00 a.m.
