Local Man Rescues Operator & Passenger Of Capsized Boat

(Orleans)– A local man is being credited for rescuing the operator and a passenger of a boat that capsized last Saturday on Big Spirit Lake.

Gary Owen, an enforcement officer with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources tells KUOO news a local resident, Terry Wackerbarth of Spirit Lake, witnessed the incident and rescued the operator of the boat, identified as Robert Weeks of Knoxville, Iowa, and a passenger, who’s name wasn’t immediately available.

Additional details into the incident were sketchy.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Iowa State Patrol also responded to the scene.
