(Spirit Lake)– A boater education program is once again being made available to area youth this summer in the Iowa Great Lakes.
The Spirit of America Boater Education program gives 7th and 8th grade students on-the-water training on how to operate various types of water craft.
Two different sessions are being offered this year–one June 20th through the 26th and another August 8th through the 14th. Both will be held at Camp Foster YMCA, which is partnering with the Iowa Great Lakes Water Safety Council for the program locally.
The cost for the week-long sessions is 350-dollars, which includes meals and housing at Camp Foster for participants outside of Dickinson county. Thanks to a grant through the Dickinson County Endowment Fund, the cost for all Dickinson county participants is 150-dollars.

The Spirit of America national youth boater education program is sponsored nationally by the National Water Safety Congress and the U.S. Coast Guard.
