Arnolds Park City Council Addresses Bicycle, Skateboard Concerns

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A problem with skateboarders and bicyclists in the area of the Arnolds Park Amusement Park was a topic of discussion at Wednesday’s city council meeting.

Siting safety concerns for the heavy amount of pedestrians in that area, the city council directed city staff to put up signs warning skateboarders and bicyclists to stay off those areas. The signs will be going up along Lake Street in the amusement park area and adjoining sidewalks.

Businessowners and others have expressed concern over a growing number of skateboarders jumping off concrete steps and ramps.

Officials say a pedestrian was injured in that same area about a year and-a-half ago after being struck by a skateboard that flew into the air after its operator fell off while attempting a jump.

City officials hope the warning signs will help–if not, they say they may have to consider banning bikes and skateboards entirely from that area.
