(Estherville)– Charges have been filed against two Estherville men as the result of an altercation that took place early Sunday.
Estherville police say they were called to 415 South 10th Street around 4:30 a.m. and found 28-year-old Jose DeJesus Hernandes of Estherville with multiple injuries to his head, arms and torso.
Authorities say Hernandez had been attacked with a machete, broom handle and a stick.
After talking to witnesses, officers identified two suspects. 22-year-old Alfonso Garcia of Estherville was charged with attempted murder, willful injury and going armed with intent. 20-year-old Bruno Zavala, Junior of Estherville was charged with serious assault.
Police say the attack stemmed from an earlier altercation between the three men at a separate residence.
Police say the incident remains under investigation and more charges are possible.
