(Spencer)– A collision involving a truck and a semi tractor-trailer this (Wed.) morning at the north “Y” in Spencer claimed the life of a Spirit Lake man.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released as of late this (Wed.) afternoon pending notification of relatives. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clay County Medical Examiner.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says the victim was driving a 1997 Ford truck southbound on Highway 71 and 49-year-old Jerome Schueller of Primghar was driving a 2000 Peterbilt Semi tractor/trailer that was pulling away from a stop sign when the two collided.
Schueller was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign, inoperative brakes, false log and brake pad linings.
About four thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the semi tractor and trailer; the truck was totaled.
The collision took place shortly after 9:00 a.m.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Spencer Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation and the Spencer Fire Department.
Authorities say the collision remains under investigation.
