(Worthington, Mn.)– The Minnesota State Patrol says a downed power line resulted in a three-vehicle mishap Sunday on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 near the Heron Lake exit.
Authorities say 59-year-old Christopher McGowan of Coe Hill, Ontario, Canada was driving a 2007 Freighliner semi tractor/trailer that was stopped in the right lane due to a downed power line, along with a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup pulling a horse trailer being driven by 36-year-old Christy McElroy of Dell Rapids, South Dakota. That vehicle was also parked.
Authorities say a third vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet van driven by Randy Hartz of Sioux Falls, came upon the scene and tried to pass the parked vehicles on the right shoulder. Instead, troopers say the van collided with horse trailer, then the semi.
Minor injuries were reported to Hartz, who didn’t seek immediate treatment. No other injuries were reported.
Minor damage was reported to the semi and the pickup; severe damage was reported to the van.
The mishap took place around 8:20 a.m.
