A request to vacate a portion of a road in the Methodist Camp/Monarch Cove area on the northeast side of West Lake Okoboji drew a standing room only crowd to Tuesday’s Dickinson County board of supervisors meeting. Several adjoining property owners are requesting a portion of North Bay Drive be vacated. Many other residents in that same area are opposed, saying the protion of the road that would be closed serves as a main access. Those wanting the road closed say those residents would have access by developing a new road along a nearby easement. Those opposed to the road being vacated say they don’t want the hassle of building a new road. The supervisors decided to continue a public hearing on the matter to September 11th. In the meantime, those requesting the road be vacated were instructed to have an engineer put up stakes so that everyone would have a better idea on the exact area that would be affected.
