(Spencer)– A two-vehicle collision Thursday at the North “Y” in Spencer sent one person to the hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol says 30-year-old Serena Rustad of Everly was eastbound on Highway 18 and was on the Highway 71 crossover when she failed to stop for a northbound vehicle driven by 37-year-old Cara Boyer of Spencer. Authorities say Boyer tried to brake to avoid a collision, but was unsuccessful.

Boyer was taken by family members to Spencer Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries. No injuries were reported to Rustad, who was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.

Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2001 Ford driven by Rustad and to a 2004 Honda SUV driven by Boyer.

The mishap took place around 8:30 a.m.
