Dickinson Co. Supervisors Take No Action On Airboat Funding Request

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday took no action on a funding request from Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue to purchase a new airboat.

Duane Zahradnik told the supervisors the existing airboat was retrofitted and is no longer safe to be operated.

He added the new airboat would be available to respond to calls throughout the county and would be capable of being operated not only lakes, but sloughs as well.

Zahradnik says they’ve raised 33,775-dollars so far. The goal is 80-thousand. 14-thousand is being requested from the county.

Saying the county is in the midst of its current budget cycle, Supervisor Mardi Allen told Zahradnik this is a poor time to come before the board requesting money. She suggested Zahradnik come back toward the first of the year.
