(Spirit Lake)– There was a considerable amount of damage but fortunately no injuries this (Tues.) afternoon in a house fire in Spirit Lake.
Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch says the Spirit Lake Fire Department was called to 603 22nd Street shortly after 4:00 p.m.
Upon arriving Kollasch says firefighters found a considerable amount of smoke coming from the structure.
Kollasch says the fire originated in an upstairs bedroom on the southeast side of the house near a stairway leading to an attic. He says there was a lot of structural damage to that part of the house, with considerable smoke and water damage to the remainder.
Kollasch says the occupants weren’t home at the time and no injuries were reported. A dog that was in the house managed to get out unharmed.
Kollasch says the fire was discovered by a passerby who called 911 on a cell phone.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s Office. A representative of the office was on the scene late yesterday (Tues.) afternoon, but as of last evening Kollasch said they were still waiting for an official report.
Spirit Lake firefighters were on the scene about two hours.
