Cardboard Bales Behind Grocery Store Ignite

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– Authorities are trying to figure out what caused some cardboard bales to go up in flames Wednesday behind a Milford grocery store.

Milford Fire Chief Brian Craig says firefighters were called to the east side of Buy Rite around 3:00 p.m. where 21 bales of cardboard were on fire.

Craig says they were able to contain most of the fire to the cardboard itself, but there was some very minor damage to the exterior of the grocery store and a couple of nearby storage buildings.

Craig says firefighters had to use a fork lift to break the bales apart, then soak them down. He says they were then hauled away.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were on the scene several hours.

A portion of “P” Avenue was closed to traffic due to the fire.

The cardboard is valued at about 500-dollars.
