(Spencer)– Spencer police have released details into a traffic stop this past Saturday that would eventually result in drug charges against several people.
Authorities say an officer pulled over a vehicle driven by Jesalen Newgard of Spencer around 2:00 p.m. The officer discovered a passenger in the vehicle, Cory Newgard of Spencer, had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. A search of Cory Newgard turned up a substance alleged to be marijuana.
The officer also determined Jesalene Newgard had been driving with a barred license.
Both were taken into custody.
A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up what’s alleged to be drug paraphernalia.
Authorities then obtained a search warrant on an apartment at 520 Third Avenue West in Spencer where they found what’s alleged to be marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Jeffrey Carpenter of Spencer, who was in the apartment at the time, was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance…methamphetamine…and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cory Newgard and Jesalene Newgard were charged with possession of a controlled substance…marijuana; possession of a controlled substance…methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
All three were booked into the Clay county jail.
Spencer police were assisted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Clay County Attorney’s Office.
