(Estherville)– Numbers are good for now, but officials at Iowa Lakes Community College are concerned over what may lie ahead when it comes to future enrollment.
Julie Carlson, Dean of Enrollment Management, says the concern stems from decreased enrollment in area high schools, and projections for that trend to continue well into the future.
As a result, Carlson says ILCC is increasing recruiting of hispanic students and high school students in eastern Iowa–specifically in the Cedar Rapids area. To assist in that, Carlson says the college is adding Danny Acostas to its Admissions Office. He’s an Assistant Baseball coach at ILCC. Carlson says Acostas speaks both english and spanish and will be an asset in helping attract hispanic students.
In addition, Carlson says Dusty Wadlington, ILCC’s Assistant Men’s Basketball coach who’s a native of the Cedar Rapids area, will assist in recruiting students from that area of Iowa.
Carlson says the additions bring the total number of admissions counselors at Iowa Lakes to five.
She adds ILCC currently has students enrolled from 80 percent of the 99 counties in Iowa as well as 25 states and 10 foreign countries.
