Fiber Cut Affecting Eastern Dickinson, All Of Emmet County

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– A cut of a major fiber optics cable three miles south of Estherville this (Friday) afternoon has knocked out most telephone, 911, internet and some cellular service to most of Emmet county and eastern Dickinson county.

If you live in Emmet county and need to report an emergency, you should try to call your local fire department or go there in person. Emmet County Emergency Management Coordinator Terry Reeker says each fire station in Emmet county is manned. He says personnel will relay emergency messages by radio to the Law Enforcement Center in Estherville.

To report an emergency in Terril, residents should first try calling 911. If you can’t get through, call 336-2525. Superior residents should call 858-4491.

Customers of Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative are asked to call 1-800-225-4532 to report any outages.

Crews are working on the matter, but there’s no word as to when service will be restored.
