(Undated)– Recent heavy rains resulted in a couple of area cities pumping untreated or partially treated sewage into rivers.
In Armstrong, untreated wastewater overflowed from a pumping station into the East Fork of the Des Moines River between 9:00 a.m. and Noon Thursday. The city estimates it discharged between one-thousand and two-thousand gallons of wastewater.
And the DNR says the city of Emmetsburg began discharging partially treated wastewater from a pumping station near the city’s wastewater treatment plant, through a static screen, then into the West Fork of the Des Moines River. An estimate as to how much wastewater was bypassed wasn’t available. Officials say the discharge began around 11:00 a.m. Thursday.
